Dear Parents and Students,
It is utterly amazing how quickly this year has flown by! Here we
are in
Quarter 4. During these last few months, it is very important that
we prepare ourselves for summer and for 5th grade. To accomplish
this, all student late work (NOT absent work) will be due no later
than by the end of the week to get partial credit.
The fourth quarter promises to be full of wonderful events and
celebrations, including Easter and spring break, our annual school
fiesta, May Crowning, and others! I am looking forward to sharing
these experiences with you, and I expect nothing less than each
student's best effort as fourth grade comes to a close. Thank you.
Yours in Christ,
Miss Kelly Foyle

Religion - We continue to participate fully in prayer and Mass
through song and sign. We are preparing for Easter, reflecting on
prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (doing acts of kindness). We have
learned about the Corporal Works of Mercy, and we will also learn
about the Spiritual Works of Mercy. We also will spend time
reviewing the seven sacraments, writing our own prayers and
petitions, and other activities.
Reading - As March comes to a close, we say goodbye to our dear
friend, Dr. Seuss, with whom we celebrated his birthday all
month-long. Now, April is Poetry Month! We have already spent some
time this year studying and having fun with poetry, but we aren't
going to let that stop us - there is still plenty to learn! Students
are still responsible for writing a letter to me in their Reading
Response Notebook and turning it in on their designated day every
week. And we are in the final month of the BOOK IT! program. Find
out more at
http://www.bookitprogram.com/. Please encourage your student to
read at home by reading with them, setting up designated reading
time, or using other ideas. Please sign their Book IT! calendar
log each night and help them keep track of their minutes they spend
reading. Thank you for your support!
Writing - We are continuing to improve our writing through the 6
Traits, so this quarter we are focusing on conventions and grammar
as well as voice to bring life and our own personality to our words
on paper. The second edition of the school-wide "VOICES" magazine
will be published in May, and many students will be represented in
it from our class! We are also continuing to write to our penpals in
Kansas City. The writing process is becoming more enjoyable and
challenging as we practice different forms of prewriting, drafting,
and editing!
Math - We are continuing to work through the Saxon curriculum as we
build our math vocabulary and understanding of concepts, including
multiplying large numbers, fractions, and even algebra. In addition,
we will continue to bring in outside information to meet the
standards for this quarter as we focus on a "Benchmark Skill" each
day.
Science and Social Studies - Amazing Arizonan Day was quite a
success, and
students looked great as they dressed as their chosen Arizonans and
presented their brief reports. In science, we spent a lot of time
exploring how we can take small steps to help our environment and Go
Green! There is still plenty to learn in these areas this quarter,
and we'll be enhancing our classroom learning by going on a field
trip to the State Capital Museum and by doing different experiments.
We will also celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd!

We worked together to write a prayer for
our class. We will say this prayer together every day to thank God
for all He has done for us!
Dear Lord,
Thank you for shelter, food, and water. Thank you for peace,
happiness, and life. Thank you for our many blessings!
Please help the St. John Bosco Center. Help us to respect
others and work for peace. Please keep our families,
parents, and friends safe, and please take care of us. Thank you
Lord!
Amen,
4A

We have spent a great amount of time focusing on respect in our
classroom - respect for ourselves and for our fellow classmates.
This includes listening when someone else is talking, saying
"Please" and "Thank you,"
inviting others to play at recess and performing similar acts. This
value is reflected in our class rules, which we came up with
together:
Class Rules
1. Always wait your turn and listen to the teacher
and classmates.
2. Always treat each other with respect.
3. Do your best work.

Consequences
1. Warning (s)
2. Reflection Time
3. Highlight
4. Phone Call Home
5. Office Referral |
